Company Newsletter – Creating Engaging Content Employees Will Enjoy
How can you create a company newsletter that engages your viewers and has them looking for more each week? The simple answer is content. Obviously, it’s much more detailed than that. You need to have a balance of human interest and relevant information about the company.
Information about the company can be more difficult in my opinion, for two reasons. Number one is, you want to be sure the information in the company newsletter is useful. Secondly, you want to be sure the information is something beneficial to the majority of the viewers. Depending on what you do as a company, the latter may be the more difficult task. Keep the company updates limited to information or accomplishments that can be attributed to the company as a whole, not just one segment, division or department. Also, if you are struggling for content about the company, consult your HR department. Their job is your personnel, so it would be more than accurate to say they may have a pulse on what your employees want to hear from you.
Human interest topics can be varied. Here at Milrich, for example, the company newsletter always features a biography of a new team member. This is especially important when you are trying to establish relationships with a team that does not get daily face to face interaction. Another take on this may be to feature an employee that has been doing an exemplary job. In this case, you are helping to establish relationships as well as giving accolades. You can’t go wrong with either of these avenues, it encourages your employees to dig into your newsletter to see who’s been featured each week and look forward to the day they open the newsletter and see their own face staring back.
Show You Care in Your Company Newsletter
This should be one of the easiest things to do. Add in employee birthdays, anniversaries etc. This information is easily gathered through your HRIS system and shows your employees they are of the utmost concern to you. Remember the point of a company newsletter is to provide pertinent information and be a resource for your employees. By establishing a good mix of informative content as well as employee focus you will keep your employees coming back for more.
