Creative Hobbies Can Increase Productivity and Success

I find that spending time indulging and de-stressing with creative hobbies can result in more time for getting work done. When I feel like I’m overloaded it’s usually because I’ve taken on too much. Therefore, it seems to go against the time management proverb of “get more done by doing less” but I’ve found that happiness spurs productivity and success. Here are a couple of ways you can de-stress for success with creative hobbies:

Say Yes to Yourself More Often

I’m the type of person who puts others’ needs before my own because it’s easier to say no to myself than saying no to others. I constantly have to remind myself that I need to say no more often. Consequently, when you say no to yourself, you begin denying yourself the things that keep you alive and energized. As a result, things like leisure activities, sports, and spending time with family tend to go on the back burner. Being able to say no to others is key to avoiding being overwhelmed by obligations others ask us to take on.

Pursuing creative hobbies outside of your daily routine can help you be more productive at work according to a study in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. People who are overwhelmed with work often neglect themselves. As a result, they can’t keep up with their commitments and will struggle to reach their ideas of success. Taking that painting class you’ve always been interested in joining can pay off in unexpected ways.

Creative Hobbies are About Investing in Y-O-U

Having creative hobbies can benefit you in numerous ways. As a result, you may notice an increase in new creativity, personal growth, along with the health benefits of relieving stress. Focusing too much on working can ultimately lead you to failure and unreached success. That’s why it is important to ensure you aren’t neglecting the things that renew you. Take the time to invest in yourself by remembering to say yes to yourself more often. Furthermore, getting involved in activities that lead you to growth and renewal will help you become more productive not just at work, but in all areas of your life.
