Outsourcing Your Business – What You Need to Know

Updated: Jul 6, 2022

Outsourcing can be a big part of your business, whether you are a small business or a large corporation. There are many reasons you may consider outsourcing and there are many benefits to for each situation.  There are also some very important things to take into consideration when choosing a company to outsource with. Let’s take a look at what a few of these include.

Outsourcing Temporary/Seasonal Work

Your company may experience a great influx of business during certain times of the year.  It’s enough to warrant additional hours being worked, but because the spike in revenue is usually tied to something more specific rather than a long-term need for additional employees outsourcing is the perfect solution. Outsourcing in your business allows you the flexibility to hire someone to complete the job without having to worry about the expectation of long-term employment.

Other times you may simply have a large project that needs special attention and your team may not be able to process the project within the time frame needed without additional help.  This is another situation in which the length of employment becomes the issue and the solution can point you to outsourcing.

Long Term Expense

Let’s consider the total expense that goes into hiring an employee. If your company offers competitive benefits packages it costs even more.  Add in any sort of an employee match to 401K, or partially paid insurance benefits, and the cost continues to grow.  You, as an employer, pay out a lot more than just salary when you have permanent employees. This is where outsourcing can help you control these costs.

Outsourcing for Expertise

Sometimes you just need an expert! If you are having a hard time finding an employee, that is a good fit, it can make more sense financially to outsource the job. Maybe you need an expert in a specific field but aren’t exactly certain what the qualifications are. Or, maybe you just don’t have the availability to train someone for the specific job.  These are times that outsourcing becomes very beneficial.

Choosing the Right Company

There can be a plethora of other reasons why outsourcing can be a good option for you. It’s really important, though, that the company you choose to outsource with meets the needs of your goals.  Maybe you are trying to test out a position to see if you truly have a need for a permanent position, or you have been considering outsourcing an entire HR or Payroll department. Whatever the case may be, you want to ensure the company you are outsourcing to can meet those needs.

Start out by making a list of some basic questions and get those questions answered. Also, be sure to consider asking more in-depth questions like does this company specializing in temp-to-hire positions? Does this company offer employee status to their workers? These types of questions can help you weed out candidates just looking for a “foot in the door” with your company. Just be sure the company you choose has a full understanding of your goals and expectations.
