Strengths and Weaknesses – Knowing These Can Increase Productivity

It’s a question you may be asked in any interview; what are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do you need to know your strengths and weaknesses? Is it so you can successfully answer the popular interview question? Is it so you can brag and be proud of all the positive things you can do in your life versus the things you can’t? No, knowing your strengths and weaknesses is important to your daily life because it will help you become more productive personally and professionally.

Knowing Your Weaknesses

This is you really looking deep into yourself and being honest with yourself about what you can and can’t do. You may feel that knowing your limitations is a major weakness and could be a detriment to your career but in reality, this will make you a more valuable asset. Knowing what areas you are weak in will allow you to improve your work productivity. It will allow you to delegate work to people who are much stronger in those areas so you can focus on the tasks that you are strong in and perfect them.

For example, if your boss asks you to help him with his social media page and you don’t know much about helping him further it is in your best interest to ask someone who does. You will spend most of your time researching how to capitalize on making the most out of social media and you will neglect your daily tasks causing you to become less productive in the things you pride yourself on doing well. Seeking help from someone who is strong in this area or even an expert will help get your new task completed quickly, efficiently, and done correctly.

Knowing Your Strengths

Knowing your strengths is the same as recognizing your weakness but usually much easier for people to identify. Capitalizing on your strong points will increase your value in your workplace. Knowing what you do well does not make you an arrogant person it makes you someone who is confident and knows how you can be of most value to your employer. Knowing what your strengths are will also allow you to help co-workers with areas they are weak in. Capitalizing on your strengths will help you easily identify your weaknesses, making you an asset to your company and an all-around better person.
